Meet Larinda
A Lifelong Advocate for Queens and a Champion for Progressive Change
Larinda Hooks is a life-long community organizer and civic rights advocate.
Larinda is dedicated to uniting our community for better public schools, affordable health care, and improved public safety. She has a deep experience in successfully building coalitions in Corona, LeFrak City, and East Elmhurst that improve the lives of all who live here - both long-time residents and our newest neighbors.
Hooks, the current female democratic district leader in AD 35, has served East Elmhurst and Corona for years. Her time as the Ericsson Street Block Association (25th & 27th Avenues) president sparked her interest in the broader community of East Elmhurst/ Corona. Thereafter, Hooks joined the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association (EECCA), advocating for the civic rights of community residents and becoming president on the Executive Board.
She has also served as the deputy director of the Flushing Meadows Soap Box Derby and troop leader of the Girl Scouts of FBC of Greater New York. Her community resume continues with her past service as vice president of the Frederick Douglas Democratic Association and current board member of Community Board 3Q. In addition, Hooks is a board member of the La Guardia Kiwanis Club. She has worked for the New York City School Construction Authority; the East Harlem Council for Community Improvement (a member of the Acacia Network & Office for People with Developmental Disabilities); and today Larinda proudly serves as director of Senior Services and Economic Development of Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities, Inc. She is a proud mother of five and a grandmother.
WHAT ALL VOTERS NEED TO KNOW:
Larinda Hooks is a lifelong Democrat who is running for Assembly to continue delivering for us. From her work at Elmcor to leading block and civic associations, Larinda has gotten results: fighting for affordable housing and to lower costs for working families, getting illegal guns off our streets and advocating for our safety, and protecting our quality-of-life. That's why she's been endorsed by labor and almost every Democrat in Queens, including Assembly Member Jeff Aubry, Council Member Francisco Moya, and State Senator Jessica Ramos.
MAGA Monserrate is in it for himself, NOT US. Hiram Monserrate has betrayed our trust--siding with extremist Republicans when he was last in office, and he was just recently seen palling around with MAGA influencers. He was expelled by his colleagues after being convicted of violently assaulting his partner, and he was convicted of stealing our taxpayer money that could have been used to clean our streets and keep us safe. That's why every Democrat and major labor union has rejected Hiram. We cannot trust MAGA Monserrate.
